Business Opportunity
Tripscout has recently begun working on a new venture to provide a discount hotel booking
service to its users. In order to create the best experience possible, Tripscout is looking to
conduct very in-depth research into how people currently explore options and make decisions
around booking a hotel. What are all the steps people go through to figure out what hotel they
want to stay in, especially when they have specific preferences.
Our research methods
Our Process
Here’s how we approached this project.
In efforts to understand users behavior here are some of the statistics from the user surveys:
Primary age demographic 26-35
92 people participated in survey
12 user interviewees
Survey key takeaways
Age Range of Participants
Female vs Males who took our survey
User Interview Insights
“I would like to compare different hotel rooms and the pricing”
“location is important because my wife and I are active runners and safety is a top concern”
“I like getting ratings and reviews from multiple sources”
Ideation
User flow
In order to give the potential travelers the best in-app experience, our team designed the “happy path” for every user. This user flow allows the person on the app to have the most seamless approach when booking a hotel. The user flow below was based on our user interviews and survey results.
Personas
Based upon the surveys and user interviews our team created 4 personas which exemplify the type of person who would most benefit from using TripScout to book their hotel.
User Journeys
Detailed process of how the user generally feels and their process of booking a trip based upon interviews.
Problem Statement
The process of booking hotels is frustrating and time-consuming. People don't trust that they are getting the lowest price or that photos, amenities, and reviews reflect what they will actually experience.
Solutions
How might we inspire confidence in our users that our prices are the absolute
lowest and they will be confident knowing in advance what to expect when they arrive.
We want our users to feel assured that they will have a great trip and not have to worry
about subpar hotel experiences.

Here are some of the comments users had after using the website.
"This might be my new favorite travel app. I really like the layout much better than the other ones I've used."
"Overall I thought the app was very easy and intuitive to use...I really like the idea of using an app that the crowd
can vote on the different hotels, and that's exciting."
"App seemed really cool, this would be awesome for me because I over-research. I would pick a location and research the heck out of it and then end up not booking it."
